I'm a coast hopper, most at home here in this wonderful and difficult city than anywhere else I've lived.
I have a great family that has not prepared me for the realities of the world. I was raised to have integrity, to be honest, to be appreciative and grateful, to treat people well and to share my toys. I find I gravitate to those who have an equally unrealistic view of the world. I'm learning to balance what I have with what I want - who I am with whom I want to be.
Smart and funny is a favorite combination and good conversational skills are much appreciated. Having seen parts of Africa, Asia, South America, Central America and Europe only makes me want more. So many places still to explore!
I'm into moderation in all things - including moderation.
I don't understand people who see being a kind person and being a cool one as mutually exclusive.
I enjoy really good food and wine. To me, great food is one of the finest pleasures in life. It doesn't always have to be fancy - I love french fries and foie gras - why choose? I love to cook though don't do it as often as I'd like.
Though I've loved them, I have to admit a certain suspicion of those who don't drink coffee.
I was raised Jewish "lite" and identify more with the culture than the religion.
I can drive a stick.
Oh - not a fan of winks, just so's you know. I don't get the point? If you would like to make contact, send me an email and we'll take it from there.
My Ideal Person:
I'm interested in a man who is striving for some balance in himself and his life.
Here is my wish list:
Thoughtful, but not brooding. Ambitious, but not a shark. Sensitive, but not wimpy. Smart, but not arrogant. Attractive, but not unreal. Fit, but not fanatical. Interested in debate, but not argumentative. Confident, but not overly competitive. Oh, and a great kisser.
In short, I'm looking for a worthy opponent.
Truth in advertising: Please be honest in your profile and have a recent photo (and not just of your torso - YES, I've gotten those...!) if you want to make contact - this is a visual medium. You've seen me. It's only fair...
The last great book I read not all recent, but all loved: The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant; Bird by Bird, Anne Lamott; Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides; Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver; A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving; Bastard out of Carolina, Dorothy Allison... What is the What, Dave Eggers
My most humbling moment The most recent one was trying to take a self-portrait in the bathroom (evidence above)
The celebrity I resemble the most I've been told some really weird stuff. I don't think I resemble any of the people I've been told I do, so I'll skip it.
The best or worst lie I've ever told I pretended to be an Irish tourist in New Orleans just to mess with a "psychic." I'm not much of a liar - I avoid it.
Five items I can't live without sunglasses - coffee - something to look forward to - love - cheese (not necessarily in that order)
Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier. Knowing is sexy; discovering is sexier.
In my bedroom one will find... *several books currently being read *many comfy pillows *solice *a glass of water *a photo I took of some cherry blossoms in Central Park *a radio alarm clock (that projects the time in red LED numbers on the ceiling!)
